چکیده

Rainfall and biocrusts are important sources of temporal spatial environmental heterogeneity niche differentiation for annual plants, a major component diversity in drylands. Therefore, global change processes comprising shifts rainfall timing drought exacerbation, together with biocrust disturbance may affect species coexistence result disrupted patterns. In this study, we experimentally evaluated the effects amount as well physical their interaction on taxonomic, phylogenetic functional plant communities gypsum soil All estimates were determined at different times during community development each experimental unit (?), contribution to total treatment (?) (?). timings led changes all dimensions, higher under typical timing. The was quite resilient moderate reductions rainfall, but extreme droughts decreased alpha beta diversities. addition, simultaneous occurrence consistent collapses probably because water shortage exacerbated. Observations its highlighted importance regenerative strategies coexistence, strong dependence drivers. Indeed, our study demonstrated that patterns key factors related maintenance semiarid communities. particular, results highlight role modulating need integrative approaches consider both plants order elucidate influence climate

Land use change has stronger effects on functional diversity than taxonomic diversity in tropical Andean hummingbirds

Land use change modifies the environment at multiple spatial scales, and is a main driver of species declines and deterioration of ecosystem services. However, most of the research on the effects of land use change has focused on taxonomic diversity, while functional diversity, an important predictor of ecosystem services, is often neglected. We explored how local and landscape scale characteri...

Taxonomic, phylogenetic, and trait Beta diversity in South American hummingbirds.

Comparison of the taxonomic, phylogenetic, and trait dimensions of beta diversity may uncover the mechanisms that generate and maintain biodiversity, such as geographic isolation, environmental filtering, and convergent adaptation. We developed an approach to predict the relationship between environmental and geographic distance and the dimensions of beta diversity. We tested these predictions ...
